Kopf Brand Canada Superhero Minifigures KF357 and KF358 Review

Hey bootleg brick fans!  A very long time ago, when I had just finished high school, I got hired by the now defunct toy maker Parker Brothers to give Yo-yo demonstrations.  I used to have to drive around towns and cities and perform yo-yo tricks in malls and toy stores.

In my off hours, I would visit book stores and buy their used comic books to read.  I remember coming across a Marvel series called Alpha Flight and it was all about these Canadian superheroes, which was pretty cool, me being Canadian and all.  Wolverine was actually in Alpha Flight before he became a member of the X-Men.

The leader of the Alpha Flight team was Guardian and so when his minifigure showed up on Aliexpress, I knew I had to get the minifigure of him.  That's him on the right with the Canadian flag on his uniform.

Another Canadian superhero is Captain Canuck who had his own comic but was not part of either the Marvel or DC franchises.  Both of these figures are part of Kopf's 8 minifg set KF6029.   Individually, Alpha Flight Guardian is KF357 and Captain Canuck is KF358.

It should be noted that both of these Kopf figures are bootlegs of the custom designs by Engineerio.

If you want to get the legit versions of Guardian and Captain Canuck, you can find them on Engineerio's ebay page here.

Here's a look at the backsides of each of the characters, Captain Canuck on the left and Guardian on the right.  FYI, Guardian never had a shield, especially not one so generic.  Engineerio's version didn't have one either, so not sure who decided to give him one.  Print quality is excellent on both of my bootleg figures.

And just so you know, they aren't the only Canadian superheroes.  Here's Deadpool and Wolverine with Captain Canuck and Guardian.

Update: Feb26 - I had a few people ask how to find these minifigs on Aliexpress.  You can search by the numbers "kf357", "kf358", or "alpha flight" or "captain canuck" in the Blocks category on Aliexpress.

Thanks for looking!

Kopf KF947 Ronald McDonald Minifigure Review

Hi there!  Having recently built my custom McDonalds fast food restaurant from the original Hsanhe set, I've been feeling like something was missing.  It's just not the same without Ronald McDonald!

Well now, my McDonalds modular is complete with the Kopf brand Ronald McDonald, KF947.

He's got a big red afro and painted white face.  He's wearing a McDonalds outfit with logo and he's got a matching sign with the golden arches logo and the phrase "I'm lovin it".   Hopefully with his presence, he can bring in more business to the shop.

Bootleg Minifigures Database By Down The Blocks

Welcome back to Bricks and Figs!

Quick pop quiz today:

  1. What's the latest and greatest set of bootleg minifigures to come out?
  2. Who are the big manufacturers of bootleg minifgs at the moment?
  3. Is there a bootleg of a minifigure I want?

If you are like me and want the latest bootleg minifigure news, you want to head on over to Down The Blocks blog.   They always have the latest news about new minifigures that are showing up.

I briefly thought about compiling a list of bootleg minifigures a couple of years ago but gave up because I knew I could never keep up.   This was back when Sheng Yuan and Decool ruled the bootleg minifigure world.  After awhile they were rehashing the release of super heroes minifigures and there was only so many Iron Man and Captain America figures they could make.

Then came the Pogo and Xinh explosion coming with new super heroes I've never even heard of.
There's such a variety that it boggles the mind.  And it's such a major task trying to keep track of all of them.

Fortunately Down the Blocks has done the impossible by creating Minifigure Databases for both Pogo and Xinh brands.  These are currently the two major bootleg brands to produce minifigures.

Here's the the direct links to the Pogo Minifigures Database List and the Xinh Minifigures Database List.   Go to Down the Blocks now!

Fake Friends Minifigures Review

I've bought a few bootleg Friends building sets in the past, primarily to use the bricks and accessories for my MOC sets.  Over time, I've acquired a few of the Friends minifigures from different bootleg brands such as Bela, Sheng Yuan (SY), and Lepin.  I prefer to use Lego style minifigs in my displays, so these ones all get tossed into a plastic bag.

If you're wondering why they are all bald, it's because their hairpieces are actually compatible with the Lego minifigure heads.  The majority of the Friends style minifigs are female, but there are about two or three male minifigs.  In terms of uniqueness, almost all of them have their own outfit, I think there's only one or two that are duplicates.  Also the faces of the friends minifigures have some variations in facial features and eye colours too.

Here is a list of the sets where the Friends style minifigs come from:

  • Bela 10169 Pet Hospital
  • Bela 10162 Cafe
  • Bela 10541 Emma's House
  • Bela 10403 Recording Studio
  • Lepin 01007 Hotdog Van
  • Lepin 01011 Pizzeria
  • SY Pop Star

Stored away in the same bag, are the Sluban style of minifigures, also not compatible with the Lego style.  While most of them are male, there are a few female minifigs in the Sluban line-up as well.  I figured I might as well take pictures of them too, since I have them out.

A lot of the Sluban minifigures come from the construction series, that's why there' so many of them in overalls.  A lot of them came with red hardhats, and fortunately, they will fit on a Lego style minifigure head.  The hairpieces aren't that great but they do kind of fit also.  That's why these ones are bald too.  If you look closely, they do have some unique looking faces.

Here's a list of the Sluban sets where these minifigs come from:

  • M38-B0516 (City series) Girl at Mailbox
  • M38-B0565 (City series) Hotdog Cart
  • M38-B0563 (City series) Courier
  • M38-B0523 (City Series) Camper
  • M38-B0551 (Construction series) Excavator
  • M38-B0539 (Construction series) Steam Roller
  • M38-B0555 (Construction series) Tower Crane
  • M38-B0552 (Construction series) Dump Truck
  • M38-B0550 (Construction series) Cement Mixer

So do you collect Friends style minifigures and do you ever mix the alternate brands with the Lego stlye minifigures?

Kopf Brand KL9009 Breaking Bad Minifigure Review

Hey brick fans, welcome back to Bricks and Figures!  I bought another set of alternate Lego minifigures from Aliexpress, back in June and just got them recently.  I paid $5 USD for this 8 figure set.  In truth, I haven't watched the show, but I thought five bucks for 8 minifigures is a good deal for populating my Its-Not-Lego town.

Kopf KL9009 Breaking Bad Minifigures

If you are looking for this set, you can find it on Aliexpress by searching for KL9009.

In case you wan't more details on the characters, our friends over at Down the Blocks have identified all of the them.  http://downtheblocks.blogspot.ca/2017/06/kl-brand-kl058-kl065-breaking-bad.html.

Here are the actual pics of the figures.  Face and body printing is good, but the hats have a lot of scuffs and scratches.

Here's a look at the arm printing that two of the figures have.  And here's my favorite character ...

Unfortunately, the apron that came with the figure was defective.

He better hope that gun doesn't go off.

The defective apron.

That's ok, the ladies don't seem to mind, haha.
