My Favorite Themes

I like building my Its-Not-Lego town with all of the modular buildings and city sets which I can incorporate into it.  I bought the Hsanhe set and some of the Friends sets primarily as parts fodder of my MOCs such as the modular style pizzeria and flower shop.  I've now got most of the modular buildings that I want with the exception of the Lepin Assembly Square.

My favorite set from 2017 has to be the Lepin 05053 Star Wars AT-OT just because it looks cool and I always wanted the Lego version but could never afford it.

How many bootleg sets did you buy in 2017 and which ones were your favorites?   Let me know in the comments!

Thanks for looking!

I made a Mini Modular MOC from several brands of bricks.

Hi there!  Yesterday, I was going through some army related brick sets I have.  They aren't a theme that I've really gotten into.  So I did an inventory and I had an army base, a military Jeep, a combat medic ambulance, an assortment of motorcycles and several army minifigs.  Oops, I guess I should have taken proper pics of them before taking them all apart.  I started deconstructing them so I could use some of the green bricks in making a new mini modular.

And here's the final result.  As it turned out, I didn't use that many of the dark green bricks because I didn't want a modular that was too dark.  I ended up just using the army green bricks around the foundation and some accent pieces along the roof.

The First Floor

With my limited amount of bricks, the best option for me was to make another two storey building in the same design as my Hsanhe KFE mini modular building.   Here's a peek at the first floor looking in.  As you can see it's still unfurnished.  I've used some of the green bricks as banding around the foundation perimeter and closer to the top.

The white bricks come from different brands, hence the colour inconsistencies.  I think I used white(ish) bricks from Megablocks (the worst, they yellow), some from Gudi and Sluban, and some from Enlighten.  I figure nobody is going to see the sides of my building anyways.  The one brand that's not in this building? Lego, lol.

The front facade is borrowed from the Enlighten Sunshine hotel set.  The front and rear green doors are taken from a Hsanhe set I reviewed last week.

Another look at the side reveals a lot of colour inconsistencies amongst different brick bands.

Like the first floor, the second floor is empty also.  The second floor roof uses black tile bricks from Sluban. I can tell because all of the Sluban bricks are stamped M38.

The Second Floor

The green bricks around the windows are from the Lepin Parisian restaurant.  Some of the army green bricks made their way into the second floor as well.  Since I'm using several smaller pieces for the roof instead of one solid piece, there is a tendency for the bricks to arch upwards at the ends, oh well.

At some point in the future, I have to add a staircase to access the second floor from the first floor.

This is how the mini modular looks from the side.

And this is how it looks next to the Hsanhe KFE building.  It's pretty much the same height and proportions.

Here's the mini modular in the streetscape with the other Hsanhe buildings I have modded.   I just wanted to show everyone that it doesn't matter what bricks you use, you can still have fun making little buildings such as this one.  It doesn't always have to be Lego.

So what kind of shop can I make it?  Please let me know if you have any ideas, because I still haven't figure out how to furnish it yet.   Thanks for looking!

Lego compatible Brick parts from Block Tech

Hey guys, just wanted to share some finds with you today.   Whenever I go to Walmart, I always stop in at the Toy aisle.  I used to visit the die-cast car aisle to see the latest Hot Wheels, Greenlight and Johnny Lightning die-cast.  I would blog about them on my other blogs http://hwpics.blogspot.com and http://mytoycars.blogspot.com.

These days, I tend to frequent the Lego aisle because my die-cast car collecting has waned.  So as I'm wandering down the aisle, I see these new Lego compatible building blocks called Block Tech.

There's quite a large assortment as you can see from my picture above.  Each box contains 250 brick pieces and they come in several colours.  They have a box that contains all black pieces and another box that contains all white pieces.

Other boxes contain brick pieces that come in three shades of colour.  For example, the gray box has light gray brick pieces, dark gray pieces, and pieces that are the older Lego gray colour.  Other boxes that have coloured pieces also come in three different hues.

Here's a close-up look at one of the Block Tech building block sets.

Hete's some more colours in brown and blue shades.

There are even specialized parts sets such as vehicle wheels, trees, shrubs and flowers and even windows and door sets.   All of the sets listed cost $9.97 CDN before tax.  That's around $6 or $7 USD per box of 250 pieces.

Block Tech also makes some baseplates but these are 20x20 studs, not the more commonly used 16x32 or 32x32.  There are two plates per package and they sell for $2.97 CDN, or about $2 USD.

I bought a gray colour assortment of bricks and a box of all white bricks.  Here's the front of the gray box.

Here's the back of the box of gray Lego compatible pieces.

Here's how the building bricks are packaged.  They have different size pieces, and shapes, such as bricks, blocks and plates.   I used the gray Block Tech bricks for the recent mods I made to my custom 14 stud wide modular building.  Go on over to my other blog Its-Not-Lego to check it out.   I used them for the the foundation, and floor supports and the clutch of the bricks is excellent.  I haven't opened up my box of white brick pieces yet, but plan on using them for other Mocs or Mods soon.

I'm not sure if these can be found in the USA or other countries.  Let me know if you've seen or used these bricks and if you liked them or not.

Brand: Block Tech
Model: Assortment of Lego compatible black, white and coloured brick parts.
Number of pieces: 250 per box
Price: about $10 CDN or  $7 USD, baseplates about $3 CDN or $2 USD.
