Modified Enlighten 1120 Happy Camper Truck (not Lego)

Hello and welcome back to another post at Bricks and Figs!  It's mid April 2020 and we are still practising social distancing, which means we shouldn't go outside unless it's completely necessary.  That means we have lots of time to build some brick sets or in this case, we can modify an existing set that we already have.

Let's time travel back to April 2017, four years ago.  That's when I first blogged about the Enlighten 1120 Camper Truck.  In that post I complained that the truck was too wide at 8 studs, instead of my preferred width of 6 studs.  Yup, that's the camper truck above, in all it's 8 stud wide glory.  Ok, now let's return to present day and here is the modified Enlighten camper truck.

I decided that we wouldn't compromise the utility and play value of the set by making the living quarters smaller.  In fact, within pretty much the same footprint, I've managed to add a bed to the interior, but I'm getting ahead of my self. Let's take a look at the exterior before moving to the inside of the truck.

Here's the newly modified front cab of the truck.  I've decreased the width to 6 studs and it kinda has a retro ford econoline look to it.  The eight stud windshield has been replaced by the six stud equivalent, maintaining the transparent blue tint of the original.  I didn't have a 6 stud wide slope brick in lime green, so I opted to use the original roof blocks as part of the hood.  I'd much prefer the cab roof to be match the rest of the truck colour, but white is all I have in my brick stash.

Moving around to the side of the cab, you can see how the profile has changed.  There was a toss up about how big I should make the cab portion. I opted to go for the longer cab and use the side window pillar there.  The other option is to shorten the cab by one stud, which will necessitate a different roof over the cab.

Behind the cab, everything else is pretty much the same.  The axe is still there and so is the window.  I added some amber lights where the cab roof meet the rear box.

I got rid of the roof mounted shovel and antenna and moved the solar panel array from mid roof to as far forward as I could.  This gave me enough room to carry two bicycles.  I did manage to retain the roof racks, however.

The bikes are held in place by a clamp, so they don't go flying off during highway driving.  The solar array also helps to deflect the the wind up and over the bikes.

Here's the right side of the truck with retained window and fire extinguisher.

The back of the camper truck sees some significant improvements.  There's a license plate and extra marker and brake lights for safety.  The space that used to be occupied by the bike now has a gas can and spare tire.  The ladder to the roof has not changed.

Enlighten's original concept for the back of the camper was that it was split down the middle and both sides could swing away to access the interior.  In my design I opted to go with the complete removal of the box instead for structural support.

Seating has been reduced from 4 seats to 3, but I did manage to keep the freezer and stove/grill.  Since there's no passenger seat in the cab, I removed the computer screen that came in the original design.  There's now enough room for a decent sized bed and if necessary I could extend the bed width by another stud to comfortably sleep 2 minifigures side by side.

I tossed the minfigures that came with the set into a large box, so I just grabbed some random ones for this photo shoot.

Here's how the camper looks with shell removed looking forward.

As in real life, storage space is at a premium, so I added under the bed storage, accessible by two doors in the back of the camper.

Here's a few extra pictures I took of the modified Enlighten Camper.

Hope you enjoyed the pics!  Thanks for looking!   The original set is available on Aliexpress if you search for Enlighten 1120.

Bela 10541 Emma's House and Enlighten 1119 Delivery Mashup

Yup, I did it again.  I made another little modular building by using parts from other building block sets.  In this case, I used parts from the Enlighten 1119 QM Delivery set and the Bela 10541 Emma's House set.  Let's do a quick review of the sets individually before I delve into my MOC.

Enlighten 1119 QM Delivery

Pictured above is the Enlighten 1119 Express Delivery building set.  The 337 piece set consists of a small delivery depot, a delivery truck and motorbike.  The set also includes 4 minifigures.  Sticker sheet is provided for the store signage and delivery truck.  Brick quality and clutch is good, consistent with the newer Enlighten block sets.  It's a set that is designed by Enlighten and not a bootleg of a Lego set.

I think this set cost me $16 USD which wasn't really that cheap.  I just checked Aliexpress and you can get this set for 13.75 now.  Here's the link if you are interested:

Anyways, I built the set and then promptly disassembled it, so I didn't really do a formal picture review of it.  The truck is nothing special and the shop is merely a door with some pillars without any walls or roof.  The minifigs are ok though.

Bela 10541 Emma's House

This set is a bootleg of Lego 41095 of the same name.  I reviewed my set here:
https://its-not-lego.blogspot.ca/2016/10/bela-10541-emmas-house-friends-building.html
After the review, I promptly stripped the set down for parts, and so I had a surplus of lavender coloured bricks which was hard to incorporate into my other building sets and MOCs.

The New MOC

So it kinda occurred to me that the orange and lavender coloured brick pieces might go together without looking too gross.  I followed my standard method of construction for a small modular:  ie.
using a 16x32 stud baseplate and making a little building that has a depth of about 16 to 18 studs.

The pieces that really define the Enlighten Delivery shop are the giant orange sign with uplighting and the orange door and awning.  As I designed my MOC, I decided to retain as much of the original look as possible. Essentially I was supplying the walls and roof that the original building was missing.  I was able to keep the front facade mostly orange and white with just a small lavender accent stripe.

Here's a corner view of my new MOC building.   You can see that the walls make good use of the lavender bricks from the Bela Emma's house.  In fact, because all the bricks are from the same set, there's no colour variations in the lavender, unlike some of my other MOC sets where I use bricks from different brands.

This is another side view of the building.  If you wanted to create a backstory for it, it could have previously been a beauty salon which was then converted into another type of store, maybe an ice cream shop or something.  Now, the building is back up for lease or sale.  That's why it's empty on the inside.

Here's the rear of the building with a back door.  I left a couple of orange bricks in, to make it look like the building has been repainted at some point.

As with all my MOCs, I make sure that the roof can be removed, for interior viewing and access.

Right now the building is just being used for storage.

Here's the little store MOC placed next to my MOC KFC.   Sally the realtor is waiting for one of her clients to meet her for a viewing at the shop.

Hey, turns out the client was already here and checking out the rear of the building.  Well, there you have it.  Please let me know what you think of this little creation, and what kind of store I should turn it into.  Thanks for looking and visiting my Bricks and Figs blog!   See you next time.

My Collection of Lego and Non Lego Fire Rescue Building Sets

Today, I'll be showing you my small collection of Fire and Rescue building sets.  Most of them are not Lego but I do have a few Lego sets as well.   The little utility vehicle above comes from the Kazi 8052 Fire Station set.

This is the Fire Department Car, model 8057, also by Kazi.  You can tell the Kazi models by the crappy wheels that they come with.  I believe this is a copy of an older Lego model.

Another Kazi model, this one is model 8055. It's a Fire Department pickup truck with trailer. This is a near bootleg of Lego model 7942.

This was my first Gudi model fire truck 9209.  I like that it's wheels are similar to that of Lego models.

This model is the Fire Truck model 8054 by Kazi.

Another Gudi brand fire apparatus,  this fire truck is from the Fire Rescuer set 9215.

I modified this Kazi 8053 Fire Snorkel model by extending the cab.

Here's an actual Lego model in my collection.  It's the Fire Truck from the Fire Emergency set 60003.

Here's my other Lego model.  It's the Fire Department Helicopter 7206.

The Kazi Fire Station 8052.

As part of my Fire Marine unit, this model is from Gudi 9213.

And finally, this big Fire and Rescue ship, by Enlighten, model 909.  Despite it's massive size it only has 361 pieces.

I have a soft spot for Fire and Rescue Apparatus as you can tell from my building block collection.   I also collect Fire Engine Diecast models which you can find on my other blog:

http://code3diecast.blogspot.com

Just curious, does anyone else collect Fire and Rescue building sets or diecast?  Please leave me a comment below.

Thanks for visiting!!
