Hey fellow block and minifigure enthusiasts! 👋
Today, let's take a trip down memory lane to 2013, a pivotal year in the bootleg Lego minifigure market. Back then, the stage was dominated by two major players: Sheng Yuan and Decool. These brands had a stronghold on the scene, offering alternative minifigures that were reasonable facsimiles of the original minifigures but at a fraction of the price.
Sheng Yuan, aka SY, and Decool were the go-to names, their products flooding the market with unique designs and affordable alternatives to official Lego minifigures. Collectors were spoiled for choice, and these brands seemed unbeatable. I plan on looking at some more of my collection of SY and Decool minifigures in the near future.
Today, we will look at some bootlego Batman minifigures, namely the Sheng Yuan Batman set SY182. This 8 figure set contained six copies of various Lego versions of Batman, plus a copy of Robin and Joker as well.
Did you know that Sheng Yuan released a set of eight Batman mini figures not
once but twice in 2014? Both sets are referenced as SY182. Both
sets have the old style rounded feet. The original SY182 set has the
Batman figures all with capes. The newer SY182 set has the Batman
figures with hard plastic wings. Here's a look at the minifigures in the set.
Blue Suit Batman - Lego clone 2012
Electro Suit Batman - copy of Lego Visual Dictionary version 2012
Arctic Batman - Lego clone 2013
Original Batman - Lego clone 2006
Dark Knight Batman - clone of Lego 2008 version.
Black Suit Batman - Lego clone 2012
The Robin minifigure is the same in both sets except the colouration of his
utility belt is different.
He is copied from the Lego Robin that came
out in 2012.
The Joker in SY182 is pretty much the same in both sets. He is based
on Lego's 2006 version.
What's cool about the old Sheng Yuan sets were the little freebies included with each minifigure like these trading cards!
I also miss the little catalogue insert that came with the sets too. Man, those were the good old days.
Anyways, hope you have enjoyed this little time capsule from the golden era of bootleg minifigures! Thanks for looking and bye for now.
